MANGALDAI: Former activist of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and a promising businessman of Darrang district, Hare Krishna Nath (48) is no more. This humble social activist breathed his last in a private hospital in Guwahati on the midnight of April 21 following a sudden ailment.

Born to the family of businessman Deben Nath and Panchami Nath of village Pacchim Bahjani under Kalaigaon LAC, on December 21, 1973, Nath he was the eldest of four sons. He completed his education from Pacchim Bahjani LP School and Outala High school. In 1987, he joined Kalaigaon Anchalik Students' Union and was deeply involved with the students' organization up to 1996. He was also actively associated with Kalaigaon Sports Association and took a lead role in organizing State-level invitational volleyball and kabadi tournaments in Kalaigaon. As an active member of 'Kendukalai'- a premier socio-cultural organization of Kalaigaon, he rendered his yeoman's service in organizing the one-week duration workshop on 'Bon Geet' at Mangaldai in 2004 in association with Darrang district administration and 'Yuba Teertha' of Guwahati.

On April 15, 2002, he tied the nuptial knot with Dulu Moni Nath of Kalaigaon and got actively involved in contractual works under PWD, WRD and Irrigation department as a class I contractor and settled in Baruapara of Mangaldai town. A smart businessman with prompt and sincere initiative, he proved his expertise in completing emergency works like repair of breached embankments, construction of helipads for VVIPs and earned respect from all the senior officials. During the lockdown period in 2020, Hare Krishna Nath had extended his helping hands towards the downtrodden section of the society and provided food materials, medicines to a good number of needy persons. With a view to inspire and encourage the frontline COVID warriors like police and fire service officials and to offer gratitude for their round-the-clock duty during the pandemic, this humble businessman on the first day of Rongali Bihu in 2020 offered phulam Bihuwan to all the ranks of police and fire service. He also offered phulam Bihuwan to the progressive and ideal farmers of Darrang district in association with 'Seuji Asom'- a non-government voluntary organization of ideal farmers.

His mortal body was consigned to flames on Thursday morning as per Vedic rituals at his paternal village in presence of his family members, neighbours and well wishers. Legislator of Kalaigaon Maheswar Boro, BJP activist Babul Chandra Boro, media person Dhruba Saharia and others offered their last respect. He leaves behind his wife Dulu Moni Nath, father Deben Nath, only son Raj Kumar Nath, four younger brothers and a number of relatives.
