Former BSS president Brajendra Kr Brahma laid to rest in his native village

KOKRAJHAR: Former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), noted writer, educationist, Sahitya Akademi awardee, Tagore Literary Award winner Brajendra Kr. Brahma who passed away on December 5 at RN Brahma Civil Hospital after prolonged illness was laid to rest on Friday evening at his native village Chalani Batabari under Dotma Police Station in Kokrajhar district.

In his address, the president of the BSS Taren Boro said, “Late Brahma was the president of the sabha for two terms and worked wholeheartedly for the development of Bodo language and literature. Brahma was sincere in his work and he resolved for the compilation of multi lingual dictionary after the Bodo language was included in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution in 2003.” He also said he was not only a great litterateur but was also an educationist as he served as the dedicated headmaster of Banargaon High School till his retirement.

Boro said the sabha will never forget his contributions to the Bodo literature. Brahma has received several awards for his immense contributions to the Bodo literature that include Sahitya Akademy Award, Tagore Literary Award, Someswary Literary Award and Rangsar Award from the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Promod Brahma Literary Award from BTC and UN Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award from the UN Brahma Trust in 2019.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary said, “The Bodos have lost a great literary genius. The society will never forget his creativities and relentless contributions towards the Bodo literature. The leaders of all organizations, intellectuals, thinkers and well wishers should be invited in his adhya shradha in a big way to recollect his contributions.

Earlier in the morning, BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary visited his residence at Baganshali and paid floral tribute. Former MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, BTC EM-Doneswar Goyary also paid last respect at his residence. After that his dead body was brought to RN Brahma Memorial Bhavan (BSS central committee office), Kokrajhar where several hundreds of people irrespective of caste, creed and religion gathered to bid adieu. Several hundreds of school students, villagers, citizens, teachers, lecturers, well wishers and leaders of all political and democratic organizations flocked together to offer last tribute to Brahma.

The BSS president Taren Boro, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, general secretary of ABSU Lawrence Islary, president (I/C) of Dularai Boro Harimu Afad Jogeswar Brahma and others offered flowers.

The dead body of Brahma was taken to his native village Chalani Batabari under Dotma PS via Banargaon through a huge rally. Before reaching his village the body was taken to Banargaon High School where teachers, students and villagers offered floral tributes. His body was cremated at Chalani Batabari in presence of hundreds of villagers, well wishers, students and leaders of different organizations.
