Assam: Former Youth Congress President Angkita Dutta Summoned By ED

GUWAHATI : Former Assam Youth Congress President, Angkita Dutta had been summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 19th of December, Monday, in its Kolkata office. Earlier this year in the month of August, Angkita Dutta was interrogated By Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation with Saradha funding case. 

The matter was regarding a scam of a Bengali newspaper 'Sakalbela' in the Guwahati press circle. The episode took place in 2014 and is considered as one of the major financial scams.

Angita Dutta's father, Congress leader Anjan Dutta, was also grilled by CBI for the same matter in 2014. Since then, investigation is on into the multi -crore scam.

The Saradha scam is widely known as Saradha Group Financial Scandal. A business man called Sudipto Sen initiated the scheme under Saradha Group in the early 2000s. A total of 200 private members are engaged in the company. 

In a very short span of time, the scheme gained high popularity targeting the small investors with high returns. The revenue was collected through several agencies. These agents were paid more than 25 per cent as an incentive. 

Within a few years, Saradha Group earned around Rs 2,500 crore. The company used various business techniques starting from endorsements by celebrities, investing in well known football clubs and leading occasions like Durga Puja in order to attract more investors. As per the reports, the scheme got popularised outside Assam with a number of 1.7 m investors. The states include Odisha and Tripura.

Angkita Dutta has been removed from her post as the president of Assam Youth Congress. The reason has not been revealed yet, though she used the social media platform to express her views about the ongoing corruption in the party.

She is now the director of Anubhuti Printers. Angita Dutta served in the position for a year and the reason for her replacement is not clear.
