Former Minister Ruponsing Ronghang Passes Away at Diphu Civil Hospital

Diphu: Former minister of Assam, Ruponsing Ronghang breathed his last on Sunday night at Diphu Civil Hospital. He was 71. Ronghang was suffering from serious ailments and had been admitted to Diphu Civil Hospital for treatment. His body was brought to his native village at Bhoksong where his last rites would be performed. Ronghang was born in 1948 in a small village at Harlak near Bhoksong of West Karbi Anglong district. He was the eldest son of Khoyasing Ronghang and Kaphui Teronpi. He was the first amongst the Karbis to get the M. Sc degree. Ronghang also studied LLB and even cracked the UPSC examination. He worked as a liaison officer in the Coffee Board.

Later, he resigned from government service and joined the social organization Kanchasdcom as its president. In the year 1999, Ruponsing Ronghang joined the Indian National Congress in Karbi Anglong. In 2001, he contested from 20 no. Baithalangso LA constituency and was elected by a huge number of votes. He then served as the Education Minister of the State.
