KOKRAJHAR: Police on Saturday morning arrested three leaders of different organizations from different places which include Former MLA of Chapaguri constituency Hitesh Basumatary (Baksa), Daorao Dekhreb Narzary (Kokrajhar), Working President (WP) of Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) and Bikram Daimary (Udalguri), president of Bodoland Contractors' Association (BCA). They were reportedly arrested on charges of suspicious act of forming new militant outfit in BTC area.

Sources said the working president of BJSM and former EM of Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC) Daorao Dekhreb Narzary was arrested from his residence in Kokrajhar in the wee hours on Saturday and subsequently sent to jail. A case was registered at Kokjrajhar Police Station against Narzary vide no.09/2023 u/s 120 (B)/121/121 (A)/122/124 (A), R/W sec 16/17/18/18 (A)/18 (B)/19/20/21 U.A. (P) act, & R/W sec 66 IT act which is non bailable.

Former MLA Hitesh Basumatary was arrested on Saturday morning at his Mushalpur residence in Baksa district. He was also brought to Kokrajhar to questioning. The police team recovered an AK-47 rifle, an M-16 rifle, two magazines and 126 rounds of ammunitions from his residence.

On the other hand, the president of Bodoland Contractor Association Bikram Daimary was arrested from the residence of his father-in-law under Sapkata police outpost of Gossaigaon sub division in Kokrajhar district.

Meanwhile, the president of Bodo National Students' Union (BONSU) Bonjit Manjil Basumatary while reacting to media persons said the arrest of Bodo leaders and recovery of arms and ammunitions was completely fake and making. He said the working president of BJSM Daorao Dekhreb Narzary raised several voices against the de-reservation move of ST reserved constituencies in the delimitation process. He also said Narzary used to raise voice for protection of tribal belts and blocks and illegal encroachments in tribal lands which forced the government to arrest him. He demanded that Narzary and other arrested leaders should be released without any condition.

Meanwhile, Nabanita Sarma, Additional SP, Kokrajhar told the media persons in an interview that a group of people were trying to float a new terrorist outfit any time soon. She said the police based on specific input arrested three persons DD Narzary, Hitesh Basumatary and Bikram Daimary in connection with the move to form new militant outfit. She also said out of the three arrested persons two have been remanded for five days by police for interrogation while the third one has been sent to jail. She further said investigation and cross examination was going on and everything will come to light after investigation is over.
