KOKRAJHAR: Former Lok Sabha MP and chief convener of the conveners' committee for the special convention of former ABSU leaders, members and Bodo civil society, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary on Sunday strongly opposed the process of delimitation of parliamentary and legislative assembly constituencies in relation to the BTAD in Assam by the Delimitation Commission.

Addressing a press conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club, Bwiswmuthiary objected to the process of delimitation of parliamentary and legislative assembly constituencies in relation to the BTAD by the Delimitation Commission headed by Ranjana Prakash Desai, retired Judge of the Supreme Court, constituted on March 6, 2020. He said that the Bodo civil society had opposed the process of the delimitation of parliamentary and legislative assembly constituencies in the greater interest of the indigenous people.

He urged the Delimitation Commission to stop the process of delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies until and unless the names of illegal encroachers within the tribal belts and blocks and the names of the people who have migrated from other States to BTAD after creation of this area, were removed. These illegal encroachers and new migrants have outnumbered the indigenous tribal people and other native people of the BTAD, he said.

Bwiswmuthiary added that the indigenous tribal and other native people of the BTC would be bound to mount tremendous democratic pressure on the Delimitation Commission to stop the exercise of delimitation of parliamentary and legislative assembly constituencies in relation to BTAD with immediate effect.
