Former Professor Dr Bijoy Chandra Gogoi passes away in Dibrugarh

Former Professor & HOD of Pathology Department of Assam Medical College, Dr Bijoy Chandra Gogoi passed away on Tuesday morning at his residence here due to old-age ailments.

DIBRUGARH: Former professor & HOD of Pathology Department of Assam Medical College, Dr Bijoy Chandra Gogoi passed away on Tuesday morning at his residence here due to old-age ailments. He was 77. Dr Gogoi was survived by one son, daughter, wife, a school teacher, Abha Gogoi and a large range of colleagues, students and admirers.

Born in Barbari village, Bishmile, Chabua in Dibrugarh district on December 8, 1943, he was the third son of Bakul Chandra Gogoi and Lila Gogoi.

Dr Gogoi's educational career started at Dinjoy High School, Chabua. He did MBBS from Assam Medical College & Hospital. He then joined AMC&H in 1962. Dr Gogoi passed 1st MBBS and final MBBS examination in 1964 and 1967 topping the list of successful candidates in both these examinations from Guwahati and Dibrugarh University, respectively. He joined the Pathology Department in AMC&H, as a demonstrator in April 1969 and became HOD of the department in 1996. During his service, Dr Gogoi got a Diploma in Clinical Pathology and MD in Pathology with distinction. He retired from his job as a professor and HOD of Pathology, AMC&H in 2002.

Founder General Secretary of North East Chapter of IAPM, founded in 1976, Dr Gogoi was examiner of Post Graduate examination of Pathology in Dibrugarh, Guwahati Kolkata and Patna Universities. Faculties, students, employees, staff of AMC&H and the people from different walks of society widely mourned Dr Gogoi's death.
