Former Rajya Sabha MP Kamalendu Bhattacharjee Dies at 81 in Kolkata

SILCHAR: Former Rajya Sabha MP and famed educationist Professor Kamalendu Bhattacharjee breathed his last on Saturday in Kolkata. Bhattacharjee, 81, left behind his wife and two daughters. Family sources said the funeral would be performed in Silchar on Monday after his daughter lands from the US.  Kamalendu Bhattacharjee, who was a popular teacher of English in GC College, was known to be a trusted lieutenant of the Congress heavyweight leader as well as the former Union Minister Sontosh Mohan Dev. Bhattacharjee was nominated in the Rajya Sabha in the early 80s. However, fissures cropped up between the relationship of Dev and Bhattacharjee in the later days. Bhattacharjee subsequently joined the AIUDF. However, after his only doctor, Kunal Bhattacharjee, died by suicide, Bhattacharjee gradually withdrew himself from active politics. For the last few years he was completely bedridden with multiple age-related ailments.
