Former Transport Minister passes away in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: Former Transport Minister in Sarat Chandra Singha Ministry in 1972, a well known personality of Dibrugarh, Indeswar Khound passed away on Thursday at his residence at Naliapool due to old age ailment. He was 102. Khound is survived by three daughters, one son and host of relatives and admirers.

First graduate and LLB degree holder of ethnic Mottock Community, Khound was MLA in Assam Assembly for three times representing Bagdung LAC (presently Chabua LAC), Duliajan and Chabua LAC respectively. Beside a true Gandhian politician, Khound was also a die hard social worker. He was closely associated with a number of social institutions.

His last rites were performed at Chokidinghi crematorium with full state honour amidst presence of senior officials of District administration, family members, relatives and representatives of various organizations.

Khound’s death was widely condoled by a number of organizations including Upper Assam Chambers of Commerce and Industry, APCC , Dibrugarh Committee, Former Minister and Speaker, Prithivi Majhi, Former Union Minister and president of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Paban Singh Ghatowar, Former Minister and Dibrugarh District Congress President, Atuwa Munda and General Secretary, Dibrugarh District Congress Committee, Raj Kumar Neel Nera Neog.
