SILCHAR: Theme song for forthcoming Silchar Sylhet Festival was ceremonially released on Thursday night here in Silchar. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice Chancellor of Assam University released the song at a function attended by MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, who is the key person in organising the three day festival starting from December 2. Roy said, a 60 member delegation including at least seven ministers from Bangladesh would take part in the festival.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya and Manipur counterparts Conrad Sangma and Biren Singh and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would also attend the programme. Roy stated that because Barak Valley and Sylhet shared a historical, cultural, and emotional bond, steps would be taken to maximise the benefits. Steps would be taken to set up an international trade centre in Silchar as the region shares border with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Since Barak Valley and Sylhet had a historical, cultural and emotional bondage, steps would be taken to reap maximum dividend from this, Roy pointed out. The theme song was composed by Hrishikesh Chakraborty.
