TINSUKIA: As part of the government's initiative to improve education among the children of tea gardens, the Samagra Siksha in Tinsukia district envisaged upgradation of four lower primary schools to upper primary. In this endeavour, foundation stone for a new school building was laid at Bogapani Tea Estate near Digboi on Sunday in presence of Samagra Siksha (SS) officials and garden management.

After lighting the ceremonial lamp, Shaymal Baran Sinha, the manager of the garden, while exhorting the government, said that prioritizing intervention in garden schools would improve opportunities for better and higher learning among children. The SMC president and also deputy manager of the garden, Sunanda Mukherjee said that the government fund should be properly utilized maintaining proper standard and sought support from all quarters.

While Trideeb Sarma Tamuli, SS district programme officer, elaborated the implementation of various schemes, Jogeswar Borah, district project engineer, Romen Borai, programme officer, spoke on the occasion and Utpal Baruah, SS engineer, moderated the programme. Tamuli also informed that upgradation works had begun in three more schools in the district, namely Hilika, Tara and Dinjan tea estates.

Samagra Shiksha (SS)- an overarching programme for school education sector extending from pre-school to class XII - has subsumed the erstwhile schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Teacher Education (TE).
