KOKRAJHAR: Four persons allegedly involved in the brutal murder of a woman at Sutharpara village under Kokrajhar PS on Saturday were arrested on Sunday night.

The accused persons are Sathiram Basumatary (husband), Gaidang Mashahary (49), Buthonga Basumatary (48), both from No.1 Shantipur village of Chirang, and Robin Basumatary (39), a physically handicapped person of village East Tharaibari in Chirang. In their confession, they said that Gaidang cut off the head of the woman while her husband Sathiram gave the sharp weapon. They also admitted that each of them was paid Rs.10,000 by Sathiram to kill his second wife Gaide Basumatary.

Meanwhile, Kokrajhar police recovered the head of the woman after arresting the culprits from a gorge. Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police R. Rousham said that Gaide Basumatary of village Sutharpara under Kokrajhar police station was brutally murdered by the arrested accused persons on Saturday evening at her residence where she used to live alone. He said that questioning was on and the accused would be punished as per law. He also said that superstitious beliefs and property issues could not be ignored as the husband had properties in Kokrajhar and in Chirang.
