Four Sand-laden Trucks Seized in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: In an operation launched by Golaghat Police, four illegal sand-laden vehicles were seized from NH-39 of Rongajan in Golaghat on Monday night. The seized vehicles have registration numbers AS 09 AC 3196, AS 09 AC 3113, AS 05C 7214 and AS 05 C 6178. The vehicles were carrying sand illegally without any legal documents of the forest department.

On Tuesday, the drivers of the seized vehicles - Kumod Bora, Bipul Rajkhowa, Bjit Gogoi, Sailen Hazarika - were produced before the court and sent to jail. Notably, a section of forest officials and forest mafia have been running the illegal sand and stone business by destructing river resources. Various allegations have been raised against the forest officials and mafia several times. Senior officers of the Golaghat Divisional Forest office have been arrested for their involvement in the illegal business of river resources. Despite these measures, the illegal sand and gravel business and destruction of river resources continue.
