KOKRAJHAR: Four senior executives of the United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) were on Thursday expelled from the organization for their alleged anti-organizational activities.

The general secretary of the UBPO, Anil Basumatary said that four senior leaders of the organization were expelled due to their indulgence in anti-organizational activities. The senior executives who were expelled from UBPO include Bijindra Basumatary, assistant general secretary, Jadab Basumatary, organizing secretary, Pinakshi Basumatary, president of Dibrugargh district committee, and Kanaksa Boro, president of Kamrup metro district. He said that the president of UBPO, Mihiniswar Basumatary exercised his power to expel them as per the constitutional provision of the organization. He also said that the members who were expelled would be served notice with immediate effect.

Sources said that the four executives of UBPO had been demanding berth of Executive Member (EM) in the interim Executive Council of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council to be formed within few days. All of them were reportedly enlisted as being members of the interim Executive Council but they were not satisfied and wanted berth of EM. The sources also revealed that all four members have joined the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) a day before their expulsion from UBPO.

Anil Basumatary said that the Government of Assam had already passed the requisite bill for formation of BKWAC and the interim executive council was likely to be formed within the second week of the current month. He also said that the UBPO had already submitted the list of members for interim executive council of BKWAC.

UBPO had been working for the unification of all Bodo groups and organizations. They started democratic movement since 2014 demanding the formation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC districts. Subsequently, the BKWAC came into being with the BTR Accord being signed on January 27, 2020. Mihiniswar Basumatary, president of the UBPO, put his signature in the BTR Accord as being a stakeholder of the Bodo peace accord.
