Four Suspected ULFA(I) linkmen Apprehended by Dibrugarh Police

Dibrugarh: Ahead of the 73rd Independence Day, Dibrugarh Police with the support from Sivasagar and Golaghat police launched a massive operation on Wednesday and apprehended four people for allegedly being in contact with outlawed faction ULFA (I).

The apprehended people were identified to be a female teacher identified as (Chayanika Kaman) was apprehended from Golaghat, a female student Kabita Kamang from Dibrugarh, one ICU technician (Pranab Pegu alias Kanakjyoti Pegu) from a private hospital in Dibrugarh and Debojyoti Duarah from Naharkatia.

Meanwhile, addressing the media here, Subhasini Shankaran, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police said, “Investigation is going on in full swing and the arrested persons are being interrogated. We have seized a flag of the militant organization, seven mobile phones and one Maoist literature book from their possession. More details will be revealed after the investigation is over.”

It may be mentioned that the Assam Police has earlier said that the outlawed faction is trying to motivate and influence the young minds, academically brilliant students to work as moles for various operational work like surveying targets through different techniques.

Earlier on Tuesday, based on a confidential input, of movement of a group of ULFA (I) cadres in an area under Pengeree Police Station, a joint search operation was launched by Tinsukia Police yesterday evening along with 210 Battalion Cobra Camp Bordumsa, 68 Battalion CRPF, Colns of 21 Para Security Force & 3 GarhRif in the area of Tekri, Pengree Police Station.

After applying considerable pressure, two ULFA (I) cadres surrendered before the joint team of police and other security agencies at around 2115 hrs.

The apprehended cadres were identified as Pronobjyoti Bora alias SS PTE Ridip Asom (25) son of Gopinath Bora, resident of Shantipur village in Dhemaji, Rohit Kuli alias SS CPL Polo Asom (29) son of Lilakanta Kuli, resident of 2 Gajpuria village, Amarpur Police Station under District Sadiya.

During the operation, the security forces seized two Chinese Hand Grenades from their possession.
