DEMOW: The four-lane road will be constructed from Jhanji to Demow and for this eviction drive was done in Demow Chariali. The Demow Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus stand was in the middle of Demow Chariali near NH-37 road. The ASTC office and shops in bus stand were evicted in the year 2017.

Out of 28 shops, only four shops remained in the Demow ASTC bus stand and out of the four shops, the Demow ASTC office is being set up in two shops. The question arises as to how the Demow ASTC office can be set up in those two small shops? It has been four years now and the Demow ASTC bus stand has not been constructed as yet. Moreover, the 28 businessmen whose shops were evicted are yet to get compensation. The families of these 28 businessmen are facing a difficult time as they have lost their means of livelihood.

It is alleged that due to the negligence of the former Transport Minister, the Transport Department and former Thowra MLA, the Demow ASTC bus stand was in this condition. According to sources, it has been decided that the Demow ASTC bus stand will be constructed in the old Sunday Bazaar house. A signboard indicating the same has been hanging there but no work has started till date.

The 28 businessmen have appealed to State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain to look into the matter seriously and to come up with a solution to their problem.
