Dibrugarh: Free breast and cervical cancer screening camp organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Assam Branch in collaboration with Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) Zone 1, at Jokai Central Hospital (Panitola TE) on Friday concluded successfully.
The camp targeted female residents who are married and above 30 years from different tea estates under Panitola Circle of ABITA Zone 1. The camp was inaugurated at 10 am in presence of Sailen Goswami, Additional Vice-chairman, ABITA, and chairman, ABITA Zone 1, Madhurjya Barooah, Secretary, ABITA Zone 1, Dr Prerona Kisan, Gynecologist, IMA and Dr Mukul Bhattacharyya, Zone 1 Medical Coordinator and Circle Medical Coordinator, Panitola Circle.
Dr Prerona Kisan, gynecologist, with skilled nurses under Project Swayam launched by IMA Assam, conducted the screening session on the day. The nursing staff of Jokai Central Hospital provided necessary support to the camp.
Dr Mukul Bhattacharyya, who led the initiative, said that 56 female beneficiaries from Dinjan, Kharjan, Nokhroy, Rungagora, Panitola and Chabua Tea Estates attended where Pap Smear was taken in slides from all beneficiaries. The slides were sent to the Pathological Department, Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh for testing.
Madhurjya Barooah, Secretary, ABITA Zone 1 expressed his gratitude to the IMA for taking such initiative in tea garden areas. He thanked Dr Prerona Kisan for conducting the session on the day. Barooah also said that this was the first screening camp that IMA and ABITA jointly initiated in Panitola Circle and this initiative would continue to the other six circles of ABITA Zone 1 for the benefit of the tea garden community.
