GOLAGHAT: As soon as the Independence Day celebration in Golaghat was over, the State Home Department issued a notification which stated that Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Robin Kumar has been transferred to Assam Police Head Office. Sadiya SP Sumit Sharma was transferred to Golaghat as the new SP.

Diganta Barah, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Home and Political Departments, in an order stated Dr. Robin Kumar, Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, had been transferred and attached to Assam Police Headquarters and would report to Director General of Police, Assam Police Headquarters for further instruction. Also in the same order, Sumeet Sharma, Superintendent of Police of Sadiya, was transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Golaghat. Dr Robin Kumar had held office of SP Golaghat for less than 90 days.

Earlier, Manavendra Pratap Singh took charge as Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat. He was handed over the charge by Orpah Baglary. Soon after taking charge, he chaired a meeting at the DC conference hall with his administrative team and Health Department where he took a brief overview of the prevailing COVID situation in the district on the very first day.

But soon the COVID situation in the district became worse as cases began to rise. Later, he was given the charge as Secretary to Commerce & Industry Department. He was Golaghat DC for only 48 days. Frequent transfer of IAS and IPS officers within a short span is raising questions among people.
