TINSUKIA: Panic gripped people in and around Bordubi in Tinsukia district after 36 COVID-19 positive cases were reported among students and teachers of girls' residential schools while additional three cases were reported from elsewhere on Friday.

According to DME, NHM Tinsukia, 36 positive cases were reported from Itakhooli Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya under Hapjan block after its matron Rijumoni Changmai tested positive on Friday at DEIC COVID testing centre near Tinsukia Civil Hospital. Subsequently, the District Health Society team along with staff from Bordubi PHC carried out contact tracing and tested all students and staff of KGBV. A total of 34 students and two supporting staff tested positive and all were asymptomatic. All positive cases have been shifted to Tinsukia Civil Hospital isolation ward.

Meanwhile, additional three cases were reported in the district of which two cases (RAT) have been reported from Tinsukia Civil Hospital testing centre and one case from AMCH (RTPCR).
