Dibrugarh: Along with other parts of the country, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi was observed with great aplomb here too. Celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesh, who is also known as Vighnaharta, people across all ages were seen thronging the well-decorated pandals erected all over the town. Since Lord Ganesha enjoys a high degree of popularity among the children, many children were seen visiting the pandals with their guardians and seeking blessings of the God, who is believed to the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

As a direct consequence of this festival, there was a spike in the demand for sweets, especially Modak – a sweet considered to be the favorite of the deity, and which also lends Lord Ganesha the moniker of ‘Modakpriya’. Apart from Modak, people were also seen buying sweets like Laddo aplenty. On the occasion, apart from the public pandals that witnessed heavy footfalls, many families also installed the idols of Lord Ganesha at their private homes.

DEMOW: Under the patronage of the organizing committee of Sri Ganesh Janmotsav and with the help of the people of Demow, the 9th Sarbajanin Sri Ganesh Janmotsav was celebrated near Parijat Cinema Hall, Demow and also in Demow Central Market on Monday. The devotees came and lit earthen lamps in front of Lord Ganesh’s idol and took blessings. Naam prasanga, as well as devotional songs, were performed on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday. Ladoos were offered in front of Lord Ganesh’s idol.
