GUWAHATI: The World’s Longest River Cruise completed its maiden journey on Tuesday as it reached the ghats of Dibrugarh in Assam on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Several union ministers including Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal along with Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Rameshwar Teli, MoS Labour and Employment, Petroleum and Natural Gas were present in Dibrugarh to welcome the tourists to the final stop. State Minister of Shipping for Bangladesh, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury was also present at the event along with several other dignitaries.

Talking about the cruise, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonwal expressed his happiness on the successful completion of this special cruise. He also thanked all the tourists for taking part in this nearly two-month-long trip across several important destinations while requesting them to share their experiences during the trip when they return to their homes. He also called this project as the beginning of a new era in tourism in the entire region.

The Ganga Vilas Cruise was flagged off from the banks of the Ganges in the city of Varanasi by the prime minter of the country. The cruise ship was flagged off on January 13 and it completed its 50-day journey today in Assam.

The ship passed through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal before coming to an end in the state of Assam. It also touched Dhaka in Bangladesh as a part of is a long trip. The Ganga Vilas Cruise covered 3200 kilometres across 27 river systems of the countries.

The tourists onboard the vessel visited fifty spots of tourism destinations including world heritage sites, national parks, river ghats, and several major cities including Patna in Bihar, Sahibganj in Jharkhand, Kolkata in West Bengal, Dhaka in Bangladesh and Guwahati in Assam.
