SIVASAGAR: NSS Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Gargaon College. The programme started with a cleanliness and a plantation drive on the college premises. The formal meeting of the NSS Day Celebration was inaugurated by the vice principal of the college, Dr Rina Handique by lighting the lamp.
Dr Rimjim Borah, Programme Officer of the NSS Unit, Gargaon College outlined the significance of the day. She said that the National Service Scheme plays an immense role in the development of the overall personality of the students through social activities. The programme was graced by the presence of Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Nazira and Tanmay Chetia, Assistant Commissioner & BDO, Nazira Sub-Divisional Administration as resource persons.
The Vice Principal, Dr Rina Handique, Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed and Tonmoy Chetia offered their valuable views on the importance and the role played by National Service Scheme in its contribution towards the society. The students also organized a cultural programme with dance, song and musical instruments. The programme was moderated by Biswajit Dutta and Rajshri Gogoi, volunteers of the NSS unit of the college. The event was attended by Professor Dr Bidyananda Barkakati, Dr Surajit Saikia, Coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Pragya Jyoti Barua, Assistant Professor of the department of Rural Development, other faculty members and more than 300 students and volunteers of the college. The programme ended with a vote of thanks offered by Dr Rimjim Borah.
