SIVASAGAR: Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) of the historic Gargaon College successfully organized a national webinar on 'Line on Amity: An Eye to India-China Boundary Resolution'.

In his inaugural address, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College highlighted the objective of the webinar and pointed out how Gargaon College has been trying to provide food for thought for the academic community and the students at large during this time of pandemic by organizing webinars on various relevant issues. Dr Mahanta also spoke about the historic importance of Gargaon College and its contribution towards human resource development.

Eminent author and national security analyst, Dr Jaideep Saikia was invited as the keynote speaker of the webinar. It is noteworthy that Saikia has also served the Governments of India and Assam in security advisory capacities, including a stint in the National Security Council Secretariat as an Expert on the North East.

An alumnus of Rashtriya Military Academy, St Stephen's College and the University of Illinois, Dr Saikia traced the genesis of the India-China boundary problem and looked at the issue from both the perspectives of India and China. He came up with a novel concept called Line of Amity which is not merely a change of nomenclature of Line of Actual Control (LAC) but also a change of perspective towards the LAC. He suggested the policy-making circles could consider the thought of transforming LAC into a Line of Amity in selected sectors.

The webinar was coordinated by Yuvaraj Gogoi and technical assistance was provided by Dr Dimbeshwar Das, Dr Surajit Saikia and Nilutpal Chutia. Dr Paban Kumar Gogoi, the HoD of Political Science, offered a vote of thanks to all concerned.
