SIVASAGAR: Setting yet another milestone in the area of imparting quality education, historic Gargaon College organized an inauguration-cum-induction ceremony of the PG Programme under Dibrugarh University recently. With this step, Gargaon College has emerged as the first college in Upper Assam to introduce a PG programme in five subjects – Economics, Education, English, History and Political Science.

Welcoming the PG entrants of the five departments, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, noted columnist and Principal of Gargaon College, exhorted the newly-admitted students to be sincere in their studies and be dedicated for their future career. He urged the students to choose their desired goals and persevere by excelling in their chosen pursuits. Introducing PG courses in the five subjects has augmented the progress of the college, said Dr Mahanta.

Inaugurating the PG Programme, the chief guest, Dr Binod Chandra Borah, Joint Registrar (Academic) of Dibrugarh University, lauded the efforts of the college in setting a benchmark in the area of providing highest quality education. He expressed hope that the institution would try to attain greater milestones and upgrade itself into an autonomous institution. Deliberating on the various aspects of the PG programme, Dr Borah went on to discuss the various facets of evaluation and assessment as part of the New Education Policy.

The special guest, president of the governing body of the college, Dr Biman Chandra Baruah, in his address, traced the history of Gargaon College over an illustrious journey spanning 60 years of diamond jubilee and spoke of the emergence of the college as a premier seat of learning. Dr. Pobon Kumar Gogoi, coordinator of the PG Programme of the college and Associate Professor in the department of Political Science, oriented the newly-admitted students towards the course and the rules of the institution. He also enumerated the activities and responsibilities of the departments in running the PG Programme.
