Garo bodies’ mass demonstration to revoke Citizenship Amendment Act in Boko

Boko: Garo National Council (GNC), Garo Women Council (GWC) and Garo Youth Council (GYC) Kamrup district jointly organized a mass demonstration to revoke Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Santipur village under Chaygaon Assembly constituency in Lower Assam’s Kamrup district on Friday. Thousands of Garo tribal people took part in the rally. Before starting the protest rally, people observed one minute silence and prayed for the five martyrs. The president of GNC Kamrup district, Anindra Marak requested the government not to make Assam a dumping ground. He said CAA is the upcoming threat for indigenous people who live in Northeastern region.

Garo National Council president, Benedict A Areng demanded the government to free up those who were arrested during the protest against CAA. They also said that their protest to revoke CAA will continue unless and until it is scrapped.
