DHUBRI: “Gaschh” Bihu was celebrated with plantation of seedlings in Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) campus on Tuesday. Principal of DMCH, Dr. Ankumoni Saikia inaugurated the programme with the plantation of seedlings and opined that it is immensely important to grow more and more trees in and around us to save the man and animals from global warming and climate change.
President of Kalpataru, a nature based non-government organisation, Suchibrata Singha Choudhury told The Sentinel that this marked the beginning of planting seedlings from “Gaschh” Bihu from today and would continue till September this year.
During this period, more than 1 lakh seedlings will be planted with cattle fencing along both sides of village roads close to DMCH,” Choudhury informed.
Choudhury said that there is clear and simple science behind celebration of “Gaschh” Bihu as during celebration of this Bihu, people across Assam worship trees by offering gamosa and express gratitude to the trees for providing air, food, shelter and sheds to man and animals and thus it maintains the environment and nature as a whole.
