GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has dismissed the bail plea of Sumi Bora, Bishal Phukan, and Tarkik Bora in a case registered at Barbarooah police station in Dibrugarh. The government was represented by Public Prosecutor Makhan Phukan during the court hearing.
Bishal Phukan, a resident of Dibrugarh, was arrested after an online trading scam came to light. Sumi Borah, also from Dibrugarh, is connected to the scam as Phukan referred to her as his sister and funded her lavish wedding in Udaipur last year.
Police reports suggest that Borah managed clients for Phukan, including high-profile individuals such as doctors, actors, actresses, and even politicians. She used her influence in the Assamese movie industry to convince people to invest in Phukan's firm.
Phukan reportedly hosted extravagant parties in Guwahati, offering expensive gifts to lure people, and Borah helped attract significant investments from her network.
Several doctors in Dibrugarh district became investors in scamster Bishal Phukan's online trading company after being influenced by actress Sumi Borah. Senior police officers revealed that the list of investors includes prominent individuals, with many doctors investing significant amounts expecting high returns.
Meanwhile, Sumi Bora, Bishal Phukan, and Tarkik Bora are also being charged in a separate case that is ongoing at the Duliajan police station.
The three individuals had earlier been granted bail in a different case at Dibrugarh police station. However, their request for bail in the new case has been rejected.
