Guwahati: On Friday, the Gauhati High Court announced that students can now attend online classes even if they have not paid the monthly fee.

According to the orders of the High Court, the students should not be put at a disadvantage in attending online classes due to non-payment of monthly fees to their respective educational institutes.

The Gauhati High Court has also warned the private educational institutions against charging the students and their parents a huge sum as monthly fee.

With this, the private educational institutions in Guwahati have been ordered by the High Court to reduce the school admission and other monthly fee, given the Covid-19 pandemic that has become an obstacle for students in the path of regular education in physical mode.

Earlier, a petition had been filed by the parents of children studying in private educational institutions for the reduction of monthly fee.

The private educational institutions have also been ordered by the High Court to send their expenditure and deposit details to the fee regulatory committee of Assam. The final decision on the reduction of fees will be taken by the fee regulatory committee.

The High Court has also ordered that once the fee is reduced the remaining amount to be refunded to the parents of students of respective educational institutes.

As per reports, 200 private educational institutions have submitted in application to the Gauhati High Court opposing the reduction of fees.
