New Delhi: As the Lok Sabha gears up for a 16-hour special discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has asserted that the government must present the “whole truth” regarding India’s retaliatory action following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the session, Gogoi said the Congress has submitted a list of its speakers and expects the government to come clean. “The people of India deserve to know the facts behind Operation Sindoor. Today, the government has to be transparent,” he said. On being questioned about senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s recent remark that there was “no proof the Pahalgam attackers came from Pakistan,” Gogoi refrained from elaborating, stating that Chidambaram himself would clarify his statement during the debate. Gogoi also referred to a petition signed by Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha, reportedly connected to issues raised regarding Justice Verma and questions over the former Vice President. “This matter needs discussion. The government must clarify its position,” he said.
The debate is expected to be led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha, with senior Cabinet members including Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey also scheduled to participate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to intervene in the Lok Sabha debate and may address the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, amid calls from the INDIA alliance for a direct response, especially following former US President Donald Trump’s claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan post-Pahalgam.
The Opposition bloc, led by the INDIA alliance, is preparing for a strong, coordinated participation, with Samajwadi Party MPs Akhilesh Yadav and Rajiv Rai and TDP representatives Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu and GM Harish Balayogi set to speak. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that the Operation Sindoor debate would take priority, stating: “All issues cannot be taken up at once. The focus now is on India’s strategic response to terrorism.”
