GAURISAGAR: Gaurisagar Police on Wednesday nabbed six dacoits and recovered looted money from their procession. On September 7, a robbery had taken place on NH-37 at Charing Ali Kekuri under Gaurisagar Police Station in Sivasagar district. Police sources said that two employees of Fashion House of Jorhat New Balibat, Anuj Sarkar and Dipu Konwer (driver), were travelling in a Tata Ace bearing registration number AS-03-AC-4155 towards Jorhat from Sivasagar after collecting money from the respective stores.

Suddenly, a gang of dacoits in a Maruti Alto car bearing registration no AS-04-7937, stopped the Tate Ace vehicle by showing sharp weapons at Charing Ali Kekuri and looted Rs 2.5 lakh. The two employees, Anuj Sarkar and Dipu Konwer, informed the owner of Fashion House, Mohendra Pal Singh. Mohendra Pal Singh lodged an FIR at Gaurisagar police station. Based on the FIR, Gaurisagar Police investigated the case and the truth came to light after marathon interrogation of Anuj Sarkar and Dipu Konwer.

The whole robbery was planned by Anuj Sarkar and Dipu Konwer in Bollywood movie style. The gang knew how much money had been collected by Anuj Sarkar and Dipu Konwer. As per the plan, Anuj and Dipu handed over the money to the gang by stopping their car. When some local people saw the dacoits, the dacoits threw the money in a ditch and fled. The next day they came to recover the money but seeing people around they left.

Finally, based on the confession of Dipu Konwer, Gaurisagar Police recovered Rs.2.46 lakh from a field. Gaurisagar Police led by officer in-charge Dipjyoti Morang were able to arrest Dipu Konwer, Anuj Sarkar, Suman Das, Arju Gogoi, Rakesh Gayari and Ranjan Das alias Phelek who were hiding in various places of Jorhat district. A case 81/2020 under IPC 395 has been registered at Gaurisagar police station.
