SIVASAGAR: One person was charged after a car allegedly tried to break past a police team, prompting the police to open fire to stop the car on Sunday. The incident occurred at Hahchora-Kaliapani when police were conducting checking during COVID-19 curfew hours. According to police sources, Gaurisagar Police fired multiple rounds at a car that tried to flee the police checking. Police chased the suspicious vehicle as it sped towards Jorhat on NH-37, intercepting it near Kaliapani and opened fire at the car's wheels in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver, identified as Dhrubajyoti Gogoi of Hahchora Changmai village, was arrested in connection with the matter. Gogoi said he fled the area because he got scared when he was signaled to stop by the police. Gogoi was taken into custody and an investigation is underway.
