Guwahati: A special health camp was organised by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in collaboration with GNRC Hospital for the city’s Safai Mitras at the Division-V office.

The initiative aimed to ensure the health and well-being of sanitation workers who play a vital role in keeping the city clean. Basic health check-ups, consultations, and medical support were provided during the camp.

GMC officials stated that such camps are part of their continued commitment to the dignity, health, and safety of frontline workers. “Our Safai Mitras work tirelessly every day. Ensuring their physical well-being is not just a responsibility but a priority,” said a GMC spokesperson.

The health camp saw good participation and appreciation from the workers, reflecting the importance of such supportive efforts for essential service providers. Many workers expressed gratitude for the care extended, and several were referred for further follow-up based on their medical reports.

Officials from both GMC and GNRC reaffirmed that such initiatives will continue in future across other divisions as well, ensuring no Safai Mitra is left behind in accessing basic healthcare.

This step not only highlights the city’s gratitude toward its sanitation workforce but also reinforces the importance of health equity and inclusive welfare for those who form the backbone of urban cleanliness and hygiene.
