GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sarma tests positive for Covid-19

Dr. Abhijit Sharma, the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Superintendent and Associate Professor of Surgery tested coronavirus positive on Saturday, becoming one of the several frontline personnel to be infected.

To date, several doctors and nurses at the premier medical facility in the capital have contracted the infection. The GMCH at the moment is treating scores of patients with ramped up facilities ever since the COVID-19 outbreak landed on our shores.

Meanwhile, the state on Saturday reported 1,117 coronavirus cases, taking the overall tally to 22,981. 53 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Assam so far. In a milestone achievement for the state, more than 1,000 patients were discharged on Saturday.

India on Saturday recorded its highest spike with 38,902 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The number of deaths went up to 543, according to health ministry data.
