Goalpara DC Varnali Deka lays stress on proper nutrition for children, mothers

GOALPARA: The Goalpara district administration and the Social Welfare department on Thursday launched the Poshan Maah in the DC's office premises. Varnali Deka, Deputy Commissioner, inaugurated the programme by flagging off the Poshan flag.

During her inaugural speech, Deka said that identifying the acute malnourished children, following their health and providing them nutritious food was the prime concern of the scheme. "Due to coronavirus pandemic, this year's programmes will be observed very cautiously and by maintaining social distancing," she said.

Later, she planted fruit bearing trees in the office garden with the message to plant nutritious plants in every household to make available healthy fruits for both children as well as the mothers. She also emphasized to plant at least 50 such trees in every Anganwadi centre.

The Goalpara district administration, during last year's Poshan campaign, created hundreds of Poshan clubs which drew attention and laurels even from the Chief Minister. Pranjal Choudhury, ADC, Deben Bhuyan, DSWO, and officers from health, education and PHE departments attended the programme on Thursday.
