Goalpara: To ensure that people are wearing masks and maintaining social distancing to keep COVID-19 at a bay, Goalpara Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka has been inspecting different places of the district these days.

In such an instance, the DC on Friday visited the Dubapara Camp Bazar area. She stopped several bikers and vehicle riders who were not wearing masks and told them about the importance of wearing masks to prevent spread of the pandemic. Varnali Deka ordered police officials present on the occasion to initiate legal action against those who did not have valid reasons and documents and had come out of their houses violating the strict lockdown norms. She also interacted with some local residents and passers-by and took stock of their living conditions and hygiene and social distancing maintained in their respective societies.

The Deputy Commissioner earlier participated in a relief distribution ceremony organized at the Tinikonia Sri Surya Pahar area. Sarat Das, president of the district Karmachari Parishad, and Nipu Deka, officer in-charge of the Dubapara outpost, also participated in the programme where hundreds of poor and underprivileged families were given a one-time ration kit.

Goalpara district has been placed under the red zone due to its four corona positive cases. However, three among them have already recovered and sent back home. The fourth patient is under the supervision of the health department in the isolation ward of Goalpara Civil Hospital.
