Goalpara District Hosts Health and Nutrition Mela, Crowns ‘Miss Hemoglobin’ to Promote Women’s Health Awareness

Goalpara: In an unique initiative by the Goalpara district administration, social welfare, health and family welfare and education department in cooperation with the Kuchdhowa ICDS office on Friday, a health and nutrition mela at Dudhnoi Thekachu Gyandayini library was organized and five girls having sufficiently hemoglobin were declared ‘Miss Hemoglobin’.

The purpose of the initiative was to raise public knowledge of the proper care that expectant mothers, lactating mothers, and newborns need to receive.

The event also thoroughly discussed about the societal taboos of the menstruation during the adolescence and best health care tips to be taken for the greater benefit of the future mothers. A mobile medical team from Goalpara Civil Hospital conducted in the venue a health check up for all age groups of women and children. Women and nursing mothers were also chosen by the team as having the best necessary health among the females. DC Khanindra Choudhury attended the programme and encouraged the participants.

Among the participants, those having the best health were later awarded by Khanindra Choudhury, DC, Dr. Jonbeer Das, JDHS and AMA Hussain, DSWO.
