''God Is God And It's Above Law'': Assam CM Himanta Sarma On Gyanvapi-Shivling Row

Guwahati: Reacting over the ongoing row on the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi, Assam Chief Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said God is God and it's above Law.

''How one can bind God with a law? A God is God and its above law. In any scenario, a court has ever denied the presence of God?'' he said in an interview with Times Now.

While commenting on the AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi's statement where he (Owaisi) alleged that the partition has begun in the country, the Assam CM said, '' We have already faced one partition in-country earlier, so to ensure that the same thing doesn't get repeated, then it is important to solve each and every issue now.''

When a question was asked regarding the 1991 Places of Worship Act, said that he doesn't know who brought this law into existence but it needs to be revisited.

''Law is dynamic in nature. Except for the basic structure of the Constitution, everything will change with time provided Parliament gives its majority,'' Sarma added.

The Gyanvapi case hit the headlines after the Hindu side claimed that a Shivling has been found inside the Mosque. According to Hindus side, the Mosque was built on a destroyed temple and thus belongs to the community.

On the contrary, the Muslim side claims that the Shivling is in fact a fountain that was often created by Mughal rulers.

Meanwhile, AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi had said that Muslims are not ready to lose another Mosque after the fall of the Babri Masjid.

Owaisi had referred to the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya back in 1992 and an incident in 1949 when idols of Hindu deities were placed there.

The AIMIM chief also appealed to the Muslims to take a pledge that they will not allow history to repeat itself in Varanasi.
