GOLAGHAT: After the denial of AICTE recognition to the Golaghat Engineering College (GEC), Golaghat AASU along with other organizations expressed strong reaction and criticized the Education Department as well as the Assam Government for its lackadaisical attitude towards the future of the students.

On Thursday, Golaghat AASU staged a two-hour sit-in in front of the Golaghat AASU’s office demanding the Assam Government to take immediate initiative for recognition to the college. The protesters raised various slogans against the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State Government as well as education department. They slammed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya for their alleged ignorance due to which the technical college was facing such a problem.

Talking to the media, the president and secretary of Golaghat AASU, Niranjal Sonowal and Prince Doley said that due to alleged ignorance and failure of the government, especially the Education Department, the GEC was deprived of the approval of recognition from AICTE. As a result, the students and the GEC were now facing an uncertain future. They demanded the Chief Minister’s direct intervention in the matter and immediate steps for recognition to the college. They also warned the government not to play with the future of the students, which the Golaghat AASU would not tolerate.

Besides, Golaghat AASU demanded the immediate appointment of permanent principal, teachers and other faculties and development of the infrastructure of the college soon.
