Golaghat District Sports officer caught red handed on bribery charges

Golaghat: The arrest of Golaghat District Sports Officer (DSO) Manorama Das has prevailed sensation in Golaghat on Tuesday.

The Golaghat police under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Surajit Sing Panesar arrested the sports officer Manorama Das red-handed while she was taking a bribe.

As per a report, a sum of Rs 20 lakh had been allotted to Dhekial Higher Secondary School under the Chief Minister Rural Development Scheme for a sports development project in the school.

The sports officer Manorama Das released Rs 8 lakh as 1st installment later she demanded a bribe of Rs 50 thousand from the principal of the higher secondary school Nripen Chandra Dutta as a bribe for releasing the remaining installment of Rs 12 lakh.

The principal, however, denied the proposal of the sports officer and accordingly informed the matter to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat Dhiren Hazarika.

Following the incident, Golaghat police arrested the district Sports officer red-handed while accepting Rs 30 thousand as advance money as a bribe.

Speaking to the media, ASP, Surajit Sing Panesar said that based on information, a trap was laid down under the supervision of Golaghat Superintendent of police and arrested the DSO red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.

Meanwhile, the Golaghat police are interrogating the officer for more details.
