Golaghat Engineering College on way of closing down; Golaghat AASU stages protest

GOLAGHAT: After completion of several months, the government of Assam did not take any initiative for recognition of Golaghat Engineering College (GEC). On Friday Golaghat AASU staged a protest near the Deputy Commissioner’s office expressing their strong resentment over the conspiracy of government to shutdown Golaghat Engineering College. The activists of the organization shouted various slogans against the Sarbanada Sonowal led government as well as Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya.

Talking to the media, the president and secretary of Golaghat AASU, Niranjal Sonowal and Prince Doley respectively said that at a time when other technical institutes have started their admissions and classes, in Golaghat Engineering College there is no sign of new students getting admissions and starting of classes. It is clear that the Golaghat Engineering College is on shutdown way. They slammed Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya for their alleged ignorance and lackadaisical attitude towards the future of the students of the technical college that have to face such types of problems.

Due to alleged ignorance and failure of the government specially Siddhartha Bhattacharya led Education Department, the GEC has been deprived of the approval of recognition from AICTE. As a result the students and the GEC would have to face an uncertain future. The Golaghat ASSU demanded to the CM Sarbananda Sonowal for directly intervening into the matter and immediate steps for recognition of the college. Further, the organization said that the Assam government should develop infrastructure of GEC and should take initiative to get recognition for GEC; otherwise Golaghat AASU would not be remain silent.

As the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) has rejected its recognition for the Golghat Engineering College (GEC), 92 students were heading for a dark and uncertain future. A delegation of experts visited the college for inspection on March 4, 2019, following which it has denied recognition to the college in an official letter on April 30, for not submitting verified documents. In a final letter of rejection addressed to the department of higher education(technical), the government of Assam listed a number of 17 detailed reasons.
