Golaghat Excise Department takes stringent measures against illegal liquor

Golaghat: As the new amendment of the Excise Act, 2018 came into effect, the Golaghat Excise Department has been conducting an extensive series of raids and has taken stringent measures under strict vigilance of excise minister Parimal Suklavidya as well as Excise Commissioner Rakesh Kumar to plug loopholes to prevent leakage of excise revenue.

The Superintendent of Excise of Golaghat, Manabi Das said that since February 2019, a total of 529 cases have been detected, 346 persons arrested and 142 people have been sent to judicial custody for violating provisions of the Act.

Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Excise of Golaghat, Manabi Das and Inspector of Excise (Sadar), Niranjan Das massive raids were carried out against illegal liquor and illegally transported Arunachal liquor through Golaghat district. During the raids, 2,183 litres of illicit distillation liquor, 1,90,265 litres of fermented wash, 60 distilling apparatus sets, 271 litres of pachuwai, 425 litres of DPL and 300 litres of IMFL were seized by the department.

The department also seized 86,400 litres of Arunachali liquor which were illegally beign transported though Golaghat. In this context, seven Arunachali liquor carrying vehicles bearing numbers WB-11E2136, UP 21 BN9405, UP 21 BN5626, UP 23-D4827, UP 21 BN9717, NL 01Q6956 and WB11E2283 were seized and cases are going on in the Golaghat District Court.

The persons were arrested and produced before the court after implementation of amendment of Assam Excise Act 2018. In Golaghat Sadar Excise Circle 29 persons, 14 persons from Dergaon Excise Circle, 35 persons from Furkating Excise Circle, 9 persons from Bokakhat and 55 persons were arrested from Sarupathar Excise Circle.
