Golaghat forest division seized truck with illegal logs

NUMALIGARH: A team of foresters from the protection squad of Golaghat forest division seized a Tata DI vehicle laden with illegal logs on NH-39 near Lobonghat on Friday. As per the information received, the logs were being brought from the Karbi Anglong side. The driver and handyman of the vehicle managed to escape. As per information provided by forest officials, the logs are of valuable trees like Segun, Saal and Poma.

A large number of illegal logs were seized in the Numaligarh-Bokakhat area in recent times. It is alleged that some miscreants continue to cut and do illegal timber trade in the region under the nose of the forest department. The seized vehicle (AS-25-C-9412) is now in the custody of the Golaghat forest division. The market value of the seized logs is believed to be lakhs of rupees.
