GOLAGHAT: The 61st Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan kicked off on Wednesday at Golaghat Samannay Khetra with a cultural procession.

Various folk dances of Assam were presented at the procession. The procession started from Samanaykhetra and was carried out throughout Golaghat town. The All Golaghat District Students' Union, with the help of people of Golaghat, has organized the Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan with a three-day long programme from April 27 to April 29.

On the first day of the programme, the flag of Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan was hoisted by president of the organizing committee, Purna Rajkhowa followed by smriti tarpan by joint secretary Diganta Kumar Bhuyan and Niranjan Sonowal.

A cultural procession was carried out throughout the town which was inaugurated by Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Mrigesh Narayan Barua. In the evening, the competition of Xoru Bihuwati and huchori were held.

The competitions of Jeng Bihu and Bor Bihuwati, known as Mejangkari, will be held on April 28. On April 29, the competition on preparation of pitha, gamusa, and fresh flowers decoration will be held and later the Dhansiri Upatyaka Bota will be given away to noted Assamese film director Dinesh Gogoi. In the cultural programme in the evening, famous singer Zubeen Garg will perform.
