Golaghat: Violent Clash Erupts Over Land Dispute; Woman Killed, One Injured

Guwahati: In a dreadful incident, a 40-year-old woman was beaten to death by a group of people in the village of Da-Barichowa on Chaudang Pathar in Merapani under Golaghat district over a property dispute.

The mob did not even spare her daughter and she also got injured during the incident.

As per reports, a person going by the name of Dilip Gogoi along with his family members forcibly stormed through the house of one Maliram Borah in the same village and killed his wife Junmoni Borah.

Their daughter Porishmita Borah also got critically injured in the mob attack.

Their neighbours have claimed that trouble brewed between Dilip Gogoi and Maliram Borah after the latter allegedly made an attempt to dig the ground in a piece of land which is located close to Gogoi's property.

The incident further escalated and took a violent turn on the night of March 30 after Dilip Gogoi and his family members broke into the house of Maliram Borah with sticks in their hands.

The mob vanished when the locals reached the crime spot. Upon their arrival, the locals found Junmoni Borah and her daughter unconscious.

Thereafter, some of the villagers took both of them to the hospital for medical attention. However, the doctors from Golaghat Civil Hospital referred Junmoni, who was critically injured, to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) so as to avail of better treatment. The reference was made after examining the deteriorating condition of the woman.

Unfortunately, Junmoni could not be saved and she eventually succumbed to her injuries during the midnight hours. This incident has caused an uproar across the Merapani sub-division.

Meanwhile, the villagers had called upon the police administration to ensure the safety of the villagers by imposing appropriate punishment to the culprits.
