Golden Idols with Diamonds Attract Visitors, Worshippers in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the State and the region, Kokrajhar witnessed the peaceful beginning of Durga Puja. Altogether 210 Puja mandaps are there across the district of which 76 are in Kokrajhar subdivision and the rest in Gossaigaon and Porbotjhora subdivisions.

In Kokrajhar town, three Durga mandaps at Bhabanipur, Shantinagar and Gournagar could attract the visitors and worshippers due to special lighting, art and architecture. People from all walk of life, irrespective of caste and creed, were seen thronging the pandals to offer Swasti and Chattami puja on the occasion of Mahasastami.

At Bhabanipur, the organizing committee of Bhabanipur Sarbajanin Durga Mahatsav celebrated platinum jubilee with specials attraction. The idol of Goddess Durga at Bhabanipur is made of diamond simulation brought from outside. The idol was made in Shilpa Kendra, Kolkata by Prasanta Paul that the cost of Rs. 3 lakh. The diamond ‘abro’ idols attracted the worshipers and visitors as they were seen taking selfies.

The working president of the organizing committee, Prasenjit Debnath said the lighting and other decorations were also brought from West Bengal. The Mahaprabhu Dhaki Group, comprising all women, has come from 24-Pargana of West Bengal while singers and some artistes will also becoming for the platinum jubilee celebration. He said the committee wanted to give the message of women empowerment by involving women in the musical team. He also said the committee laid special emphasis on cleanliness in the venue and it has erected statutory messages about disallowing drugs, alcohol and other addictive substances.

At Chaupati in Shantinagar, Mahamaya Samity Sarbajanin Durgamahasav is celebrating the golden jubilee. Established in the year 1970, the celebration committee decorated the Durga idol with Citi Gold jewellery. The secretary of the organizing committee, Ratan Chandra Nath said the idol was made by Sanjay Chanda of Basugaon. He said a souvenir Saranika was also brought out on the occasion. He also said the committee had strictly prohibited the use of one-time plastic and other plastic materials, besides restricting tobacco and other drug substances.

Meanwhile, Gaurnagar Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee near Circuit House is celebrating its 52nd annual puja festival with special attraction of replicating Chandrayaan-2 in the pandal. The pandal is decorated with lander Vikram of Chandrayaan-2 and other scientists of the nation.

Talking to this correspondent, the secretary of the committee Narayan Sarkar said they wanted to motivate the young generations in science and technology. He also said that one-time plastic and drugs and alcohols were strictly prohibited in the venue.
