JAMUGURIHAT: A special felicitation programme was held at Samar Dalani under Sootea LAC on Saturday.

The felicitation programme was organized by Dakhin Nagsankar Gorkha Samaj to felicitate Moti Kumar Newar, newly-elected executive member of Gorkha Development Council (GDC) who took charge recently. The day-long programme was chaired by Bhabani Sarma, a retired teacher of Samar Dalani.

Parbati Sarma, president of Gorkha Samaj, gave the welcome address while Rishi Raj Sarma spoke about the objectives. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika said that Gorkhas were part and parcel of the greater Assamese society. "We cannot imagine a complete Assamese society without including the Gorkha community. Gorkhas are an inseparable part of the greater Assamese society and the Assam Government has been working for all-round development of every small community of Assam," he said.

The Sootea MLA was also felicitated by more than 30 socio-cultural organizations of greater Samar Dalani area along with Moti Kumar Newar, the newly-elected GDC member. Moti Kumar Newar in his speech said that he would work for all-round development of the community in the days to come.
