Silchar: Assam government is committed to provide best healthcare facilities to Barak valley and soon Silchar Medical College & Hospital will be upgraded to super speciality hospital.

This was stated by Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy while inaugurating a 5-bed ICU unit, an ambulance and a vehicle for blood bank work at an event organised by the district health society under the aegis of Cachar administration at the SM Dev Civil Hospital on Thursday.

Dr Rajdeep Roy who was the chief guest of the event said that Assam is going through a transition period in the field of education, healthcare facilities and infrastructural development of industrial and commercial establishments and the State is in a special place in the whole country in terms of health services with 24 medical colleges and 14 cancer hospitals.

Dr Roy further stated that 53 MPs in Lok Sabha are doctors. Health department of Assam has a special place in everyone's mind and the department is working to strengthen the health services of Cachar. He also said that this ICU service of the civil hospital is very necessary for the people of the city.

Rajdeep also lauded the initiatives and efforts taken by outgoing Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli during her tenure and said that DC Jalli has already set a bench mark here and next deputy commissioners whoever will take charge here will have to work hard to rise above that level.

Speaking on the occasion, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said the health services in Cachar has taken a new dimension with the introduction of healthcare facilities with the initiative of State government.

Expressing his thankfulness to the State Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Dipayan said that State government led by CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a special initiative to re-launch the underground reservoir in the hospital to provide adequate drinking water supply to the civil hospital, stated a press release.
