Government officials asked to assess vulnerable embankments

KARIMGANJ: With the arrival of monsoon, the Circle Officers, Executive Engineer, Water Resources Division and Block Development Officers have been asked to verify vulnerable embankments under their respective jurisdictions, stated a press release.

Issuing an order to this effect here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, DDMA, Khageswar Pegu directed the Circle Officers of Karimganj Sadar, Badarpur, Nilambazar, Patharkandi and RK Nagar Revenue Circles and officials concerned to make on-the-spot verification of the vulnerable embankments and to submit detail report clearly indicating the likelihood of damages to crop, livestock and families in the event of breach in embankments due to floods.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials to submit the report with plan and estimate within three days positively to the DDMA for taking up necessary immediate action by the Project Director DRDA-cum-CEO, Karimganj Zilla Parishad under the convergence plan of Panchayat and Rural Development Department. This move follows the review meeting on flood preparedness by Deputy Commissioner Pegu with officials concerned at his office conference hall on Friday.
