BONGAIGAON: Naba Sarania, Member of Parliament from Kokrajhar constituency, while addressing a press meet on Thursday in Bongaigaon where leaders like Lalit Hembrom and Madhab Rajbanshi of Non-Bodo Surakshya Samiti were also present, alleged that the Central and State governments were playing divide-and-rule game with the public.

“The government is doing this to crush the anti-CAA agitation across the country. We will never let that happen. We also oppose the proposal of the State government to make Assamese language the alternative language in BTAD area. In BTAD, percentage of Bodo-speaking people is 19 per cent while 60 per cent people speak Assamese and 21 per cent speaks other languages. This will be a massive deprivation for the people of other communities of Bodoland if Bodo is made the first language in BTAD. We oppose it and demand that Assamese should be considered as the first and main language of BTAD,” he said.
