Government to spend Rs 100 crore for developmental activities in Behali LAC: Himanta

Biswanath Chariali: State Finance PWD and Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma attended a series of programmes on Sunday in Biswanath district and laid foundation stones of several developmental works. The minister also addressed a public meeting at Behali.

Addressing the public, Himanta said that the present government in the State was committed to fulfil the promises made to the people before the last assembly election. He further informed that the government had decided to spend Rs 100 crore to carry out developmental activities in Behali LAC. A flyover would be constructed very soon at Mission Chariali, Tezpur for the benefit of the people of North Assam, the minister added.

Local MLA and minister Ranjit Dutta delivered the welcome address in the meeting. He laid the foundation stone of the reconstruction and preservation work at the historical Gangmou Than set up by Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Shankerdev and Padum Pukhuri to be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 4.47 crore. He also laid the foundation stones of the Behali Subdivisional office of APWD (Roads) and several other APWD roads.

Earlier, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Kalyani Mandir (Gambhar) at Dipara, Barangabari under Gohpur subdivision and laid the foundation stones of the reconstruction work of the temple and renovation of Barangabari and the temple connecting road in the presence of Gohpur MLA, Utpal Borah. The Assam Government has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the reconstruction of the boundary wall, the office, a wedding palace, the entrance gate and also for beautification of this age-old temple. Another Rs 2.50 crore will be released after the next Durga Puja for the beautification of the adjoining large pond while the said 6-km long road will be developed into two lane at an estimated cost of Rs 7.98 crore.

Sarma was accompanied by parliamentarian Pallav Lochan Das, local MLAs, Biswanath DC Dhruva Jyoti Das, Chief Engineer of APWD, Bibhuti Saikia and others.
